How AI image upscaling works
Understand AI image enlargement, what it can improve, and why a larger image cannot always recover the original detail.

More pixels and more useful detail
An image upscaler increases an image’s width and height. Traditional resizing calculates new pixels from neighbouring pixels. An AI upscaler uses patterns learned during training to estimate edges and textures as it enlarges the image. That can make small photos, illustrations and product images look clearer, but the result is an interpretation of the source, not a recovery of a hidden original file.
What to expect from different images
Clean edges and recognisable shapes give the model useful information. A mildly compressed product photo may respond differently from an out-of-focus portrait or a screenshot full of tiny text. Heavy blur, missing pixels and repeated JPEG compression limit what can be reconstructed. Check faces, logos, lettering and fine patterns carefully: AI can change these details or create plausible details that were not present in the source.
How Images Upscaler processes a request
Choose a supported JPG, PNG or WebP image, select an enlargement factor and start the upload. Lite, selected by default, uses our compact 4× model. Plus uses a native 2× model for 1×–2× requests and a native 4× model for 3×–8× requests. Other requested sizes are made by resizing the selected model’s enhanced result. An 8× output therefore has larger dimensions than a 4× output, but it does not represent a separate native 8× restoration.
Compare the actual download
Use the downloaded output to judge the result. Dashboard thumbnails show your uploaded original so you can identify each job; they are not a before-and-after comparison. View comparable areas of the source and result at a sensible display size. Zooming an already large output far beyond its intended viewing size can exaggerate both sharpening and compression artifacts.
Keep a copy of the source
Save the original file before trying enhancements. Uploaded and processed images are private, and our image-storage lifecycle deletes them after 48 hours. Download the versions you need within that window. Upscaling is useful for presentation and enlargement, but it should not be used to establish the accuracy of unreadable text, identity documents or other evidence.
